More about Joe Thai Duy Dinh

Joe Thai Duy Dinh is the Principal Solicitor and Director at Reiss Edwards. With over 15 years of experience across all aspects of immigration law, he currently oversees the firm’s legal team.

Joe has advised and represented many high net worth individuals and companies in applications under the UK Points-Based System. This includes applications under the Tier 1 Entrepreneur, Innovator, and Investor routes, as well as Sponsor Licence applications and the handling of large volumes of work visa applications for international brands.

He has assisted many clients from the Middle East and Asia in securing favourable outcomes in complex cases, many of which have been won through challenges to decisions made by the Secretary of State before the Upper Tribunal or the Administrative Court.

Joe has also worked extensively in advocacy since 2009 and acted as an Advocate before the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) in the Country Guidance case of IM and AI (risks – membership of Beja Tribe, Beja Congress and JEM) Sudan CG [2016] UKUT 00188 (IAC). This case set important legal guidance on how judges should approach asylum claims involving political activity in Sudan.

Since entering immigration practice, Joe has developed wide-ranging expertise across all areas of immigration law, having worked in departments including Asylum, Human Rights, and Family Immigration. He is recognised for his advocacy skills and regularly receives enquiries from barristers specialising in non-immigration fields for advice and assistance with immigration applications.

Joe has also been invited to sit on panels to discuss immigration issues. For example, he has spoken on the implications of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union with a leading UK trade union.

As Principal Solicitor, Joe is regularly invited to provide training to other legal institutions, as well as delivering in-house training to the legal team at Reiss Edwards. This ensures that the firm’s immigration solicitors remain up to date with the continual changes in UK immigration law.

Joe prides himself on being honest, open, and acting with integrity in all professional interactions. He enjoys analysing complex and technical legal issues and uses his extensive immigration knowledge and advocacy experience to develop strategies that are both realistic and legally robust.

Before entering the legal profession, Joe completed his law degree at King’s College London, where he obtained an LLB with Honours in 2006. He also completed his Master’s degree at King’s College London and the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law (now the University of Law). Joe was the first part-time trainee solicitor at Duncan Lewis Solicitors and, despite having been qualified for less than nine months, was offered a supervisory position.
